Living God’s Purpose for Us

1 Jun

Out of Christian compassion, Paul Herbert created CATCH Court for women arrested on the streets.

I (Mary) just read a wonderful story in Christianity Today Magazine about Judge Paul Herbert. As a result of reading Rick Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Life, he began to ask God what his purpose was – how God wanted to use him in his role as a Judge in Franklin County, Ohio. Nine months later God answered his question and Judge Herbert started a program called CATCH  Court – “Changing Attitudes to Change Habits” – a rehabilitation program for prostitutes that gets them off the streets, off drugs, into therapy and community. If you’d like to read the article you can find it at  http://www.christianitytoday.com/thisisourcity/7thcity/oldestprofession.html?paging=off

I’ve heard a lot of criticism of Rick Warren’s book from some who say it is weak theologically but any book that can be used by God to challenge us to reevaluate our lives and our gifts and continuously seek to follow the call of God on our lives is great in my opinion. Perhaps, we could all use a little time to reflect on the purposes that God wants to accomplish in and through each of us.
