Sin — the equal opportunity destroyer

11 May

“Hey, Sin, where ya been?
I haven’t faced your trials a while.”

“Strange to say ’cause every day
I dwell here in your domicile.”

As Christian pastors, Beauty & I are in the “sin business”.  We promote sin.

Now, before you send cards and letters, may I (Steve) suggest we just get honest with each other and admit that sin is the elephant in the “great room” of our lives.

We ignore it.  We pretend we don’t see it.  We make believe it’s really not all that bad.  We dance around it. We re-decorate our lives, and it messes up our plans. Sometimes we even try to make friends with it.

G. K. Chesterton, in his ORTHODOXY, wrote about “original sin, which is the only part of Christian theology which can really be proved.”

Sin is universal.  It’s there, and it’s not going away.

Wealth can’t cure it.  Money is worthless currency. Beauty or good looks are meaningless.  Intelligence, charm, wit, cleverness–they’re like spitting into the wind.

Nothing that any of us can do, or accomplish, can ever counteract the results of Sin.

But there is hope.
